Macromedia buys mobile UI designer

BRACKNELL, United Kingdom-Macromedia Inc. said it completed its acquisition of Mobile Innovation, a user interface designer for mobile devices. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Macromedia sells a scaled-down version of its Flash player for mobile phones, technology that can display simple graphics and animations. The company said the acquisition will allow it to create a mobile consulting practice and will form part of the Macromedia consulting team in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The acquisition follows a strategic partnership between the two companies in January. Founded in 2002, Mobile Innovation’s customers include handset manufacturers, network operators and semiconductor suppliers, and it has particular expertise with the Symbian Ltd. operating system.

Matt Millar, Mobile Innovation co-founder and chief technology officer, will lead the Mobile and Devices practice for Macromedia in EMEA.

Steve Miller, vice president of Macromedia EMEA, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Mobile Innovation to Macromedia, and we believe this will add tremendous value to our mobile business. Through Mobile Innovation’s solid background in creation and integration of custom UIs for operators and handset manufacturers alike, we can drive an even greater mobile ecosystem, as well as further enable our customers to build value and great digital experiences on the Flash Platform.”

Clarity Capital Partners advised Mobile Innovation in the transaction.
