ATLANTA-Cingular Wireless L.C.C. introduced a new smart phone it is selling as the Cingular 2125. The device features Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system and is available for $200 with a service plan.
The device is notable as it is one of the first phones that Cingular is selling under its own brand. Cingular typically sells phones from the likes of Motorola Inc., Nokia Corp., Palm Inc. and others. That Cingular branded the device indicates the carrier is taking part in a growing trend in the worldwide wireless industry of carriers bypassing well known handset suppliers by buying phones from original design manufacturers-companies that build handsets but sell them under other brands.
Cingular’s new 2125 phone was built buy High Tech Computer Corp. in Taiwan. The company builds a variety of Windows Mobile devices and sells them under other brands including Siemens AG and Orange.
Cingular’s new 2125 smart phone features Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera and support for EDGE networks. The gadget features a slim candybar-style design.
