Amp’d signs content deal with CBS, UPN

NEW YORK-Soon-to-launch mobile virtual network operator Amp’d Mobile Inc. announced it will offer TV clips from CBS and UPN, news that comes on the heels of several similar deals between wireless carriers and media outlets.

The agreement calls for the two television networks to provide Amp’d Mobile subscribers with access to show clips, previews, interviews and behind the scenes footage from CBS prime time shows such as “CSI:NY”, “Numb3rs” and “The King of Queens,” along with highlights from “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

“The cell phone is the most personal medium,” said Cyriac Roeding, vice president of wireless for CBS Digital Media. “We see great opportunities here to create personal connections that deepen our viewers’ relationship to the program, or to creatively expose new viewers to CBS and UPN content.”

CBS also recently announced a deal to provide content from its CSI shows, Survivor, Letterman, CBS News and “Entertainment Tonight” through Verizon Wireless’ Vcast service.

As for UPN, the company will offer Amp’d subscribers exclusive content from “America’s Next Top Model,” “Girlfriends” and the sitcom based on comedian Chris Rock’s childhood, “Everybody Hates Chris.”

“We knew the ‘DVD-extra’ category of behind the science footage, highlights and interviews from these key CBS and UPN programs would be at the top of our members’ ‘must-have’ lists,” said Seth Cummings, senior vice president of content and Internet services for Amp’d Mobile.

Los Angeles-based Amp’d Mobile is expected to launch its service later this month.

Verizon Wireless also announced today that it will add video segments of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” to the NBC mobile content available through its V Cast service..
