PARIS-French media services company Thomson reported plans to acquire Thales’ Broadcast & Multimedia business unit in a move Thomson said will put it in the mobile TV space. The company said it plans to offer cellular carriers a complete set of mobile TV solutions, including content creation and delivery, using terrestrial television technologies.
The transaction is valued at about $155 million.
TBM provides platforms for mobile TV, video-on-demand and IPTV, and it designs digital TV and radio broadcasting systems and equipment. Thomson said it will combine TBM’s functions with its own systems and equipment offerings to offer products and services for IPTV, mobile TV and digital terrestrial transmissions.
Earlier this month Thomson announced plans to buy Japanese company Canopus Co. Ltd, which provides high-definition desktop video-editing software.
