Oberon to add wireless to PC, console games through Cmate acquisition

NEW YORK-Casual game publisher Oberon Media said it acquired mobile multiplayer technology developer Cmate S.A.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Cmate’s mobile game portfolio includes more than 60 titles including poker offerings, parlor games and bowling. The company also powers the connected multiplayer version of the popular “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” wireless game.

Oberon, which specializes in producing casual games for PC and console players, hopes the acquisition will allow it to integrate gaming platforms and communities.

“We can now enable our online partners to connect their casual game communities with mobile phone users around the globe, and provide our mobile partners a direct link back into the burgeoning world of Internet game communities,” said Ofer Leidner, who heads Oberon’s business development. “There are literally no boundaries with Cmate’s technology: single player, mobile mobile-to-Web, iTV-to-mobile; it’s all possible.”
