PARIS-Alcatel Corp. signed a three-year extension to an OEM agreement with Tekelec that will allow the infrastructure provider to continue deploying its 8000 Media Gateway as part of its Mobile Next Generation Network solution.
The pair explained that the Tekelec 8000 is a converged media gateway that complements Alcatel’s standard-based distributed mobile switching solution, including the 5020 Wireless Call Server.
Under the agreement, Alcatel said it plans to continue integrating Tekelec’s media gateway into its Mobile NGN, as well as in its fixed and mobile environments. The companies said they also agreed to jointly implement the open Mc interface between the media gateway and the call server.
“Thanks to our renewed and extended relationship with Alcatel, a renowned global Mobile NGN turnkey solution provider, we expect to continue to grow our strong next-generation wireless media gateway market share,” said Fred Lax, president and chief executive of Tekelec.
Alcatel’s noted that its Mobile NGN is in use by operators in North America, Europe and Asia, handling more than 1.5 billion calls per month.
