TOKYO, JAPAN-Four years after NTT DoCoMo Inc. launched its 3G network-the world’s first major W-CDMA network launch-the carrier has sailed past the 20-million-subscriber mark.
According to DoCoMo, the subscriber figure was reached on Dec. 29. It expects the number of 3G Foma subscribers to reach 23.5 million by the end of March.
DoCoMo credited the growth to its expanding number of 3G handsets equipped downloading, information updates and walkie-talkie communication, as well as its extensive coverage.
