Content companies merge in 2 separate deals

RA’ANANA, Israel-Two new deals on the content front reflect an increasing move toward consolidation. Telecom vendor Emblaze Ltd. said it plans to acquire Israeli software technology company Smart Content, and Bico Inc. has signed a letter of intent to purchase Vegas Wireless Entertainment.

Terms of the Emblaze deal were not released, though Emblaze said that the “impact on cash from group reserves is negligible.” Smart Content, which develops technology that drives personalization of content for wireless and Internet protocol networks, will be renamed Emblaze Smart Content. Emblaze said it expects to add Smart Content’s FreeMate technology, which automatically collects Web information and pushes relevant digital content, into its range of mobile phones.

According to Bico, “Vegas Wireless shareholders will be issued shares representing 80 percent of the outstanding shares of Bico calculated on a fully diluted basis,” and the transaction is expected to close shortly. Vegas Wireless Entertainment offers mobile access to wagering and games such as poker, roulette, slots and blackjack. Vegas Wireless is also developing a business-to-business product that is designed to allow casinos to offer mobile gaming.
