OSLO, Norway-Internet browser vendor Opera Software ASA teamed with Bytemobile Inc. on a new mobile Web browser for 3G handsets.
The offering, which the companies said increases current browser speeds by as much as 300 percent when running over 3G networks, integrates Bytemobile’s Optimization Services Node technology with Opera’s Web-browser software. The full-HTML browser is designed for rapid integration and deployment by phone manufacturers and network operators.
The companies also announced a joint development, marketing and sales agreement for handset browser optimization.
“By combining our products, we can offer a faster Web browsing experience for the end user, free up network capacity to support more users and applications, and lower the operators’ cost of information delivery,” said Timo Bruns, executive vice president of Opera’s mobile business. “We believe that this joint solution will further accelerate the ongoing rapid adoption of full Web browsers.”
Bytemobile’s OSN has been implemented by more than 60 manufacturers worldwide; Opera browsers are available on BREW, Java, Linux, Symbian OS and Windows Mobile platforms.
