Volantis unveils m-commerce suite

SEATTLE-Mobile software developer Volantis Systems Ltd. launched a suite of applications for carriers, content providers and third parties looking to sell content to wireless users.

The offerings include a mobile storefront and user interface, content management software, on-device media player and an application that formats traditional Web sites for wireless devices. The company also unveiled a “content framework” designed to deliver custom media and messages to a variety of handsets.

“We have developed a highly integrated offering as a direct response to our customers’ requirements and the growing scale of our business,” said Mark Watson, Volantis’ chief technical officer. “Our new portfolio-with business-specific applications re-using core content delivery framework components-gives customers greater ability to quickly develop and deliver a broad variety of mobile content.”

Volantis is privately held, with backers including Accel Partners, Kennet Venture Partners and Softbank Europe Ventures. The company’s carrier customers include 3, Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Telefonica Moviles and Telenor Mobil.
