Monstermob takes over Chinese game-maker

LANCASTER, U.K.-Monstermob Group plc continued to increase its global presence, snapping up Chinese mobile game-maker M Dream China Ltd.

Monstermob, which sells games, images and ringtones for mobile phones, said it will spend as much as $35 million for the 120-employee company. M Dream China sells its own titles as well as third-party offerings in the Chinese market. The company boasts a portfolio of 250 titles, producing about 15 per month, and operates a WAP storefront for China Mobile.

M Dream achieved profitability in the fourth quarter, and generated $4.5 million in unaudited net revenue last year.

The acquisition follows Monstermob’s December purchase of Russian mobile content provider Mobicon and its $100 million purchase of China’s ATOP Century Ltd. in August.

“The board believes the Java games market in China is set for strong growth over the coming years,” Monstermob said. “The mobile games market in China, including Treasure Box (China Mobile’s games portal), is in an early stage of its development.”
