OULUNSALO, Finland-Nokia Corp.’s chief technology officer said he plans to resign from the company to take the helm at a Finnish technology firm. Nokia’s CTO Pertti Korhonen will begin as chief executive officer of Elektrobit Group plc starting June 1.
Elektrobit operates several businesses, including a mobile phone development operation, an automotive design operation and a testing operation.
Korhonen’s departure from Nokia, the world’s largest mobile phone maker, comes at a time of significant upheaval for the company. Nokia’s longtime chief executive Jorma Ollila said he plans to step down in June, and Nokia’s president and chief operating officer Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo is expected to then take over the company’s reigns.
Korhonen’s departure comes as little surprise however; corporate management teams often get reshuffled when a new CEO comes onboard.
Korhonen started with Nokia almost 20 years ago designing phone chipsets. He quickly moved into research and development, and from there ascended to several executive management positions.
