SUNNYVALE, Calif.—InnoPath Software Inc. reported that Japanese wireless operator Vodafone K.K. selected its firmware over-the-air device management solution to deliver upgraded features and services to its subscribers.
“With the growing popularity of sophisticated handsets, a total solution dedicated to fast, seamless software update delivery is a very critical component of what carriers have to offer cell phone users,” said Hiroshi Ohta, head of product and service development at Vodafone K.K. “An OTA-based software update solution will ensure our subscribers’ needs are met to fix handsets remotely and increase customer satisfaction.”
The OTA market has generated a great deal of interest in the past year, with companies like InnoPath, Openwave Systems Inc., Red Bend Software and Insignia Solutions plc racing to provide technology for OTA-enabled handsets. InnoPath has signed deals for its OTA products with carriers including Cingular Wireless L.L.C., KDDI Corp. and Sprint Nextel Corp. as well as a variety of device manufacturers, including LG Electronics Co. Ltd., NEC Corp., Panasonic Mobile Communications, Sanyo Electronics Co. Ltd., Sharp Corp. and Toshiba Corp.
