SEOUL, South Korea—LG Electronics Co. Ltd. said it plans to bring its Chocolate phone to the United States sometime this year. The company said the move is part of its plans to more quickly bring its advanced Korean handsets to U.S. shoppers.
LG has high hopes for its slim Chocolate phone. The company recently introduced the phone in its home market of Korea, where it promptly sold 300,000 units in four months. The company this week announced it would sell a GSM version of the phone in Western Europe starting in May.
LG did not say which U.S. carrier would sell its Chocolate phone. LG sells phones through a variety of carriers, including GSM operator Cingular Wireless L.L.C. and CDMA carrier Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp.
It’s unclear exactly when LG’s Chocolate phone will hit U.S. shores, or what design or color modifications might be made for American consumers. It may be difficult to conceive that a color reminding the user of chocolate alone will make a difference to purchasers, but recent handset offerings in pink have defied intuition as well since phones’ fashion aspects appear to have reached parity with their technological components, at least in mature markets.
