LANCASTER, U.K.—Monstermob Group plc continued its spending spree in China, agreeing to shell out $81.5 million to acquire content provider W-Infinity.
W-Infinity, which is based in Beijing, netted $12.4 million last year selling off-deck content to wireless users in 27 of the country’s 31 provinces, according to the companies. The 170-employee company was founded in 2002.
The acquisition follows two other Monstermob purchases in China: The company agreed in January to spend $35 million for game-maker M Dream China Ltd., and last summer content provider ATOP Century Ltd. joined the fold.
Monstermob said the W-Infinity acquisition would likely be the last for “the foreseeable future,” although the company also appears to be focused on the wireless market in Russia. It snapped up Russian content provider Mobicon last December in a $100 million deal.
“Our enlarged business will have a strong position in the world’s largest mobile market,” Chief Executive Officer Martin Higginson said. “The combination of … three highly profitable companies which have demonstrated enviable growth rates will give the Group a very strong platform from which to capitalize profitably on the growth of opportunities in China.”
