Weekly infrastructure awards wrap-up

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular

  • China: Nokia Corp. said it signed a GSM expansion contract with Jiangxi Mobile Communications as well as a contract to supply a GSM network in rural areas covered by Jiangxi. Nokia also announced a deal with China Mobile to provide GSM/GPRS network equipment. That deal is valued at $736 million.

     

  • France: Nokia and SFR signed an agreement calling for Nokia to provide its mobile softswitch solution to enhance the carrier’s network coverage and capacity.

     

  • Latvia: Latvijas Mobilais Telefons launched an HSDPA network in the country using equipment provided by Nokia.

     

  • United States: Verizon Wireless and Motorola Inc. extended their supply agreement to include upgrades to existing 1x EV-DO Revision 0 sites and incremental upgrades to CDMA 1xRTT sites to 1x EV-DO Rev. A.

Miscellaneous

  • Egypt: WFI said it won a contract to provide network engineering and consulting services for Mobinil.

     

  • Pakistan: Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. said it has been chosen by Worldcall Group to deploy a CDMA wireless local loop network in Karachi and Hyderabad.

     

  • Vietnam: Nokia said it has partnered with Vietnam Multimedia Corp. to launch a commercial mobile broadcast TV service based on DVB-H technology in two cities by the end of this year.
