Qualcomm, Motorola add to AirPlay’s war chest

SAN FRANCISCO—AirPlay said it secured $14 million in its second round of venture financing.

Qualcomm Inc., Motorola Inc., JK&B Capital, Onset Ventures and Redpoint Ventures participated in the funding round. JK&B led the round, and Ali Shadman, a general partner at the firm, joined AirPlay’s board of directors in conjunction with the financing.

AirPlay produces mobile games that coincide with live television programming. The company’s product allowed mobile users to predict winners and losers and answer trivia questions during the most recent Emmy Awards broadcast. Another offering allows football fans the chance to make real-time game predictions from their phones during live broadcasts of NFL games.

AirPlay said it plans to launch an entire platform of applications that will cover game and award shows, sports and reality TV programming.
