PacketVideo expands in Europe with TwonkyVision purchase

SAN DIEGO—PacketVideo Corp. hopes to increase its European presence with the acquisition of Berlin-based software developer TwonkyVision GmbH.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

PacketVideo produces multimedia software for mobile phones and counts the world’s 10 largest manufacturers among its customers. Key to the deal is TwonkyVision’s media server offering, which PacketVideo said will help accelerate the convergence of wireless phones and consumer electronics.

“Customers do not care about industry boundaries,” said Angela Scheller, TwonkyVision’s chief executive officer. “They just want to enjoy their media. We understand that and will deliver quality software products that make that possible.”
