InfoSpace offering free trial of location service

BELLEVUE, Wash.-InfoSpace is offering customers with select handsets the chance to use its mobile local search for free for 60 days.

The InfoSpace Find It Java application includes GPS-enabled local search, spoken turn-by-turn directions, help in locating Wi-Fi hot spots, and local event listings. It also offers up-to-date movie listings and the ability to make phone calls with one click instead of dialing a full number. According to the company’s Web site, the free trial is available to Sprint Nextel Corp. Power Vision subscribers.

“InfoSpace is focused on customer satisfaction and delivering the most user-friendly mobile local search application possible,” said Rod Diefendorf, vice president of online and local search for InfoSpace. “The free trial gives us the opportunity to show more mobile consumers how they can get all the local information they need in one place with the convenience of spoken directions and unsurpassed listings information.”

An initial version of the service launched last spring for $3 per month and is available on carriers other than Sprint Nextel.
