Alltel extends Amdocs deal

ST. LOUIS-Alltel Corp. announced extended its content-billing deal with Amdocs Inc.
Terms of the multi-year contract were not disclosed. Amdocs’ Qpass Digital Commerce platform allows Alltel subscribers to browse and purchase content such as ringtones, messaging and games. Amdocs purchased Qpass last year for $250 million.
Amdocs’ Qpass business also recently signed deals with MetroPCS and Amdocs.
“The Qpass platform gives Alltel customers the continued flexibility and convenience to customize content and make digital commerce purchases directly from their handset,” said Craig Kirklande, Alltel’s director of messaging services.
Alltel officials have said that their customers’ appetite for data consumption increased once they had access to a higher-speed CDMA2000 1x EV-DO network. Alltel has recently been expanding its EV-DO mobile broadband network, with service launches in parts of Texas, South Carolina, Mississippi and Ohio in the past two months.
