The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
- Cellular
- Aruba: Alcatel-Lucent said it completed the deployment of an enhanced third-generation network based on CDMA2000 1x and 1x EV-DO technology covering the Caribbean island.
Miscellaneous - Canada: Raytheon Co. said it won an initial $14 million contract through the U.S. government to supply 650 Enhanced Position Location Reporting System network data radios to the Department of National Defence of Canada.
- China: Nokia Siemens Networks has been chosen to provide a GSM-Railway network for the planned Dedicated Passenger Line between Wuhan and Guangzhou in southern China.
- Europe: Austrian Railways has selected Kapsch CarrierCom AG and Nortel Networks to deploy a national GSM-R network that will deliver uninterrupted communications for train crews and ground-based employees.
- Spain: L.M. Ericsson said it has been chosen to provide its mobile TV solution to Telefonica Espana.
- United States: The Justice Department selected General Dynamics Corp. to deploy a wireless communications system that will be shared by three federal agencies. Also in the United States, LGC Wireless said Orlando Regional Healthcare has chosen its InterReach Fusion in-building cellular coverage system for coverage in several buildings.
- Australia: Iridium Satellite said its value-added manufacturer, Beam Communications Pty Ltd., received a $3.5 million order from Telstra Corp. for Iridium-based satellite communications systems.
