Qualcomm racks up W-CDMA license with Lenovo

Qualcomm Inc. said Lenovo Mobile Communications Technology Ltd., a Chinese handset vendor, would license the San Diego company’s 3G W-CDMA technology for its products.
Qualcomm took the trouble to mention that “royalties payable by Lenovo Mobile are at Qualcomm’s standard worldwide rates,” perhaps to seed the “court of public opinion” with that notion, which has figured in its ongoing dispute with Nokia Corp. over a lapsed cross-licensing agreement.
The San Diego vendor and Lenovo also agreed to work together on developing handsets using CDMA technology, according to Qualcomm.
