The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–China: Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. said it won a GSM expansion contract valued at $700 million with China Mobile. The agreement covers 30 provinces including Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangsu and Shandong.
–China: L.M. Ericsson said it has been selected by China Unicom to upgrade its GSM network in six provinces.
–Malaysia: L.M. Ericsson said Maxis Communications Berhad has chosen it to expand and upgrade the carrier’s W-CDMA/HSPA network.
–Ukraine: Alcatel-Lucent announced it deployed a high-speed CDMA 2000 1x EV-DO Rev. A solution for UMC.
WiMAX
–Brazil: Aperto Networks said it has been chosen to supply its PacketMAX line of WiMAX base stations and subscriber units for Wideway Do Brasil LTDA.
–Malta: Airspan Networks Inc. said its HiperMAX base station and customer premises equipment has been deployed by Vodafone for a commercial WiMAX network in Malta.
–Vietnam: Motorola Inc. and Vietnam Datacommunications Company signed an agreement to begin a technical and commercial WiMAX trial in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Motorola will provide its wi4 WiMAX equipment for the trial.
Wi-Fi
–United States: BelAir Networks said it deployed a Wi-Fi network at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Miscellaneous
–India: Proxim Wireless Corp. said it is working with Sakthi PURA and Microsense Pvt. Ltd. to supply rural areas and remote villages in the Pollachi region with wireless broadband connectivity.
