Infrastructure awards wrap-up: Nokia Siemens, Alcatel-Lucent, Andrew and more

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Mexico: Berkeley Varitronics Systems Inc. said it won a contract from TelCel Mexico for its Gator GSMK modulated GSM Cellular stimulus transmitters.
–Slovakia: Nokia Siemens Networks said it won a contract with Telefonica O2 to supply GSM/GPRS/EDGE radio and core network equipment.
–United States: Alcatel-Lucent said it won a contract with Cricket Communications Inc. to expand the carrier’s network into new markets using its newly acquired AWS spectrum. The contract also calls for Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade existing network equipment. The five-year agreement is valued at up to $126 million.
Wi-Fi
–Canada: The Seabird Island First Nation in British Columbia is deploying a wireless mesh network supplied by Siemens that will provide high-speed broadband wireless access for residential, educational business communications.
–United Kingdom: Andrew Corp. said it will provide a variety of wireless products and services to support Arqiva’s deployment of its CityCell Wi-Fi networks in up to 40 cities throughout the United Kingdom.
Miscellaneous
–Southeast Asia: An undisclosed cellular carrier in Southeast Asia chose Comtech Telecommunications Corp. to supply satellite communications equipment that will support backhaul as the carrier expands into rural areas. The contract is valued at $1 million.
