Motorola buys Leapstone, chases ‘seamless mobility’

Motorola Inc. will buy privately held Leapstone Systems, Inc., a software developer with a unified platform for voice and data bundles across multiple networks and devices. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Leapstone’s communications convergence engine has been used by fixed and mobile network operators, including AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless.
The move appears to reflect Motorola’s continued dedication to its vision of “seamless mobility,” which remains a moving goal for the company as it pursues a long-term technology strategy while it attempts to resurrect, in the short-term, its mainstay but ailing mobile devices business.
“Leapstone’s (technology) . will serve as our new engine for enabling seamless mobility experiences across applications, devices and domains,” said Dan Moloney, president of Motorola’s Home and Networks Mobility division.
The deal, subject to approval by Leapstone’s stockholders, is set for completion by the third quarter.
