The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Bangladesh: L.M. Ericsson announced it signed a framework agreement with TMIB to upgrade and expand the carrier’s EDGE-enabled GPRS/GSM network.
–China: Henan Mobile Communications Co. awarded a contract to Nokia Siemens Networks that calls for the company to expand Henan MCC’s GSM network and upgrade it with EDGE technology. The deal is valued at $257 million.
–Taiwan: Chunghwa Telecom awarded a 3G network expansion and services contract to Nokia Siemens Networks that includes HSDPA technology.
WiMAX
–Canada: Primus Canada, Mipps Inc. and Motorola Inc. are working together on a WiMAX trial using 802.16e-2005 technology in Toronto.
–Laos: Aperto said it won a contract with Skytelecom Co. Ltd. to launch a commercial WiMAX network in Vientiane, Laos.
–Uganda: Motorola Inc. said it has been chosen by Warid Telecom Uganda to design and deploy an 802.16e WiMAX network in the country.
–United States: ITT Corp. and Nortel Government Solutions said they entered a teaming agreement to jointly pursue mobile WiMAX solutions that meet requirements for a satellite-based air traffic control system that the Federal Aviation Administration plans to deploy starting in 2009.
Miscellaneous
–Kenya: Hopling Technologies said it signed an overall framework agreement with Kenya Data Networks for a wireless mesh network.
