The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Mozambique: Mcel has chosen Alcatel-Lucent to supply a 3G UMTS/HSPA network in Maputo, Beira and Nampula.
WiMAX
–Armenia: Comstar has chosen Airspan Networks Inc.‘s WiMAX solutions for a nationwide buildout in the country, including in the capital of Yerevan and 18 other cities. The contract includes HiperMAX base stations and customer premises equipment operating in the 3.6 to 3.8 GHz band.
–Malaysia: Alcatel-Lucent announced a deal with Packet One Networks to deploy a large-scale WiMAX network in the 2.3 GHz band. The deal is valued at $71 million for the first phase of the deployment. Alcatel-Lucent will supply base stations, wireless access controllers and an operation and maintenance center. Deployments are currently started in Klang Valley, Penang and Johar.
