SEVEN has unveiled its messaging solution for the Android platform that addresses personal and business e-mail on one integrated interface.
The solution, which is being showcased at this week’s GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is not only geared to combine a customer’s personal and business e-mail but also gives an alternative to Google services that are embedded in the Android platform.
“Not all of us live and work in a Google environment,” said David Ratner, SEVEN SVP of engineering and service delivery. “We all have different identities on the Internet. I may have identities at Hotmail and Yahoo.”
The mobile e-mail and messaging software company’s solution for the platform is available to wireless providers and device manufacturers that are planning to embed mobile e-mail solutions on Android devices. SEVEN officials expect the solution will gain traction with carriers and device manufacturers as more handsets with the platform become available this year. The platform was launched on the T-Mobile G1 smartphone.
Features of the messaging solution include access to Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Domino corporate e-mail. The solution also provides access to popular Internet e-mail from such providers as AOL, Gmail, Microsoft Live, Hotmail, Yahoo! and MSN.
An integrated contact search feature is also available and the solution also offers the ability to manage personal and business calendars through Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes.
“We see tremendous opportunity to improve on what is currently available and provide richer, more functional Android devices to end-users around the world,” Ratner said.
