Pantech, Korea’s number three handset maker has constantly struggled to keep its head above water, fighting off its bigger, stronger competitors LG, Samsung and Apple.
The company’s profit has taken a blow in recent months mainly due to the success of Apple’s iPhone stealing the limelight but now Pantech has declared it’s ready to hit back and is even indulging in some fighting talk.
Park Byeong-yeop, the company’s vice chairman said “it is a matter of our survival… we are determined to fight Apple head on.”
In a bid to bite back against its bullies, Pantech has this month announced the release of its new phone, the Vega (IM-A650S).
The phone boasts to be the lightest Android phone on the market weighing in at just 114 grams. Pantech hope this light weight prize fighter will be able to knock its opponents out or at least throw a few good punches.
Sporting a 3.7 inch Amoled screen, one gigahertz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and driven by Google’s 2.1 Android version, the Vega gets its name from the brightest star in the constellation Lyra.
No prizes for guessing that Pantech hopes it will soon become the brightest star in the mobile constellation.
