Korea Telecom has partnered with Ideaworks Labs to drive its developer program with thousands of developers in Korea and provide the popular Airplay SDK to develop content for multiple smartphone and tablet devices. Significantly, KT is the first operator to rollout this type of developer program, providing a native, multi-platform development solution for its partners to build content for KT’s ‘olleh’ app store that will be made available to KT subscribers on a wide range of devices.
KT has entered into a multi-year commercial license agreement with Ideaworks Labs. KT developers will be provided with a localized and KT ‘olleh’ branded version of the Airplay SDK to develop applications and deploy them across KT customer phone and tablet devices that run on Android, iOS, Bada, Symbian and other operating system platforms.
“The wide range of devices available in the Korean market today has presented a fragmentation challenge to developers,” stated VP Mr. WonSik Hahn, Head of KT’s ‘olleh market’. “Through this partnership with Ideaworks Labs utilizing its popular Airplay SDK, our developer program will be able to better serve our content partners by providing access to millions of customers with content for a wide range of devices, without compromising on the quality and performance of their applications.”
Airplay SDK provides a development toolset that enables developers to build applications with a single codebase and then deploy natively to multiple platforms and device types, achieving maximum performance and easy portability for their content. By utilizing Airplay SDK, the traditional costs of porting between operating systems and devices are vastly reduced, meaning that developers can target multiple platforms and hugely increase their addressable market to more than 500 million smartphone, feature phone and tablet devices globally.
“By providing Airplay SDK to its content partners, KT is leading the way with an innovative strategy that provides developers with an easy way to reach as many customers as possible with their content,” said Alex Caccia, President, Ideaworks Labs. “Developers no longer need to worry about which operating system to support for the rapidly expanding range of feature phone, smartphone and tablet devices. Instead, developers can use Airplay SDK to focus on building differentiated applications which are optimized for individual hardware configurations, and make them available through the KT ‘olleh’ app store.”
