Korea Telecom | December 29, 2010 | Press Release

▶ KT to combine its wire service brand, “Qook,” and its wireless service brand, “Show,” into “Olleh” without there being a distinction between wire and wireless service brands from Jan. 1, 2011

▶ Customer-oriented reorganization by combining brands, following physical merger between KT and KTF

▶ KT to replace signboards of agencies, following those of company buildings and to operate an integrated homepage

KT (Chairman, Lee Suk-chae, www.kt.com) announced on Dec. 28 that it will abolish its existing service brands, which are QOOK, for wire service, and SHOW for its wireless service. It will combine the two products and services of KT into a single brand, “Olleh,” from Jan. 1, 2011, without there being a distinction between wire and wireless services.

KT decided to combine the two brands for wire and wireless services into Olleh in order to understand KT’s products and services in line with the trend in which consumers recognize communications service as a solutions satisfying lifestyle, without there being a distinction of communications services under the criteria of hardware, such as technologies and devices provided by a company.

KT says the red color of Olleh means warm sensibility towards customers, and color black expresses the elegant and upgraded status of Olleh. Especially, the upgraded symbol portrays a challenging explorer through its dramatic curve and attractive color tones.

By combining the wire and wireless service brands, which have been retained separately, since the merger on Jun. 1, 2009, the brand combination has significance in that it has become the starting point for actually combining all businesses of KT and KTF, beyond a physical merger of both companies.

KT also plans to apply the combined wire and wireless service brand, Olleh, to all of its existing products.

KT has changed all of its product brands as follows:
A convergence of its product brand into Olleh, mobile phone product brand into Olleh Mobile, wire telephone brand into Olleh Home Telephone, high speed Internet product brand into Olleh Internet, Internet phone product brand into Olleh Internet Phone, IPTV broadcast product brand into Olleh TV, WiFi-based wireless data and voice product brand into Olleh WiFi, Wibro-based data product brand into Olleh Wibro, and corporate business-related product brand into Olleh Biz.
KT has newly launched the Olleh Smart Home as a product offered through media terminals (handsets), except for the PC and TV.

KT plans to change its signboards, starting with those of main company buildings, including its Bundang head office and Seocho Olleh Campus, from Jan. 1, 2011, and subsequently the signs of plazas and agencies. The Websites, which are operated as QOOK and SHOW, are slated to be integrated into Olleh.com (www.olleh.com).

Nam Gyu-taek, executive vice president and Synergy Mgt Office general manager of KT, mentioned, “The brand combination into Olleh manifests KT’s intention to lead communications business by creating services that customers truly want, without there being distinction between wire and wireless services, based on innovative and challenging thinking.” He then added, “We will achieve brand positioning with a leading brand that offers innovative services in line with the new convergence age externally, while creating synergy effects between products and services internally.”

Meanwhile, KT newly opened an Olleh Avenue, a hands-on experience premium store near Gangnam subway station in Seoul at the time of the new brand launch. At Olleh Avenue, consumers can experience the use of various and up-to-date smart phones, tablet PCs and accessories, along with receiving consultations. The hands-on experience zone within Olleh Avenue is operated 24 hours a day, and a foreigner-only consultation service booth is also available.
