Latin America is expected to reach some 910,000 IPTV connections by year-end compared with 400,000 at end-2010, consultancy firm Dataxis NexTV research director Carlos Blanco told BNamericas
“The market will experience a significant expansion this year, mainly due to deployments by Telefónica(NYSE: TEF) in Brazil and Chile,” Blanco said. “Telefónica will offer IPTV in these two markets through FTTH technology.”
Colombian telecoms operator UNE EPM will continue to lead the market in terms of subscribers, Blanco said. UNE had some 125,000 IPTV subscribers by end-Q3 2010
