Fixed line network operators across the Taiwan Straits are deepening their cooperation. Lately, China Telecom Corporation Ltd. (NYSE: CHA and SEHK: 0728) and Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. (NYSE: CHT |PowerRating) inked cooperative agreement, according to which both sides will provide iEN (Intelligent Energy Network) service in Mainland China.
A top executive of Chunghwa Telecom iterates that the two parties will deepen their cooperation in the iEN field, but saying that he does not know whether they have signed agreement.
Earlier, Asia Pacific Telecom inked a memo with China Telecom. Both sides will talk about further cooperation in international roaming, value added service and joint procurement of terminal equipment and might sign formal agreement on strategic cooperation in the future.
China Telecom Board Chairman Wang Xiaochu will visit Taiwan on February 22, 2011, when he will meet the top management of top five local telecommunications companies.
Besides iEN, China Telecom and Chunghwa Telecom are likely to form cooperation in the construction of submarine cables and the fields of terminals and optical fiber.
