BT | March 7, 2011 | Press Release
BT, one of the world’s leading providers of communications solutions and services, achieved another milestone in its Asia Pacific expansion plan with the opening of its new Singapore Technology showcase by Amanda Brooks, Acting British High Commissioner to Singapore.
The new facility is part of BT’s ongoing investment programme in the region, aimed at delivering crucial communication services that help multinational companies succeed in their business opportunities across Asia, and help local corporations operate in other parts of the world.
At the event, BT announced it is creating more than 130 new jobs in Singapore and has hired more than 100 executives across Asia since September 2010. BT also recently established a Bid Response Centre (BRC) in Singapore to enhance its capabilities to pursue large regional managed services deals, an area where it leads the market today in many parts of the world.
Amanda Brooks, Acting British High Commissioner to Singapore, said of the showcase opening, “Technology is transforming the communications space, providing global businesses with a scaleable platform to expand and globalise. It is wonderful how a leading company like BT is innovating to serve multinational clients better, making them more nimble and agile in addressing business opportunities across Asia Pacific.”
The showcase brings together the latest video conferencing equipment and networked IT applications under one roof and enables business customers to interact directly with leading edge technologies and services such as wide area network optimisation; next generation contact centres; unified communications; IP telephony and other ICT innovations.
Stephen Yeo, chief executive officer, BT South East Asia, said “Singapore is a hub to a large number of global companies. Many of our customers are expanding across Asia Pacific and we are investing to extend our communications infrastructure and services to support their growth.”
BT’s Singapore Technology showcase brings to life the opportunities offered by a networked, converged world. Its opening follows the launch of BT Showcases in Hong Kong in September 2010, Beijing in November and Sydney in January 2011. These showcases are networked with BT’s showcase centres in London and New York – thus providing a truly global experience.
The showcases are part of BT’s investment programme in Asia-Pacific announced in May 2010. The programme covers additional resourcing, new infrastructure and an expanded portfolio of services. As part of this plan, BT is in the process of filling around 300 new positions in the key customer markets of Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan and Singapore. The expansion of the in-region proposition portfolio will allow BT to provide enhanced service delivery capabilities as customers invest throughout Asia Pacific.
