Rovio is certainly feeling the luck of the Irish this week as the Angry Birds maker picked up a cool $42 million in new venture funding on the same week it released 15 new levels in honor of Saint Patrick’s day.
Angry Birds Seasons has gone greener than ever, with lots more pigs to keep the birds on their feathered toes. But while pots of gold feature in the themed levels, it’s Rovio itself which seems to have found its lucky leprechaun this week, raising a whopping $42 million in Series A funding — with Skype co-founder Niklas Zennström’s company, Accel Partners, bearing most of the brunt.
Rovio says it plans to spend the cash expanding and growing the company. It’s certainly a nice nest egg.
