Dallas-based Mavenir Systems announced it will extend the company’s 4G and LTE mobile infrastructure solutions by acquiring privately owned Airwide Solutions, a company specializing in mobile messaging solutions.
Mavenir also announced the company raised $40 million in its fifth round of funding. New investor August Capital leads this round of Series E funding that includes North Bridge Venture Partners, Austin Ventures, Alloy Ventures, Greenspring Associates and Cross Creek Capital, which also joins as a new investor.
Mavenir has raised a total of $105 million since October 2005.
The company said the acquisition places Mavenir as a global partner in assisting mobile operators to transform core networks ready to launch converged voice, video and messaging services across LTE.
“With this acquisition, Mavenir Systems will strengthen its already advanced product portfolio and will be well positioned to support global mobile operators in their evolution to 4G networks,” said Pardeep Kohli, president and CEO of Mavenir Systems. “Our increased global presence and our combined experience will instill a greater confidence in our customers as they rely on Mavenir to launch innovative LTE services quickly and cost effectively.”
Airwide’s employees and product portfolio will be fully integrated into Mavenir. Airwide specializes in the global mobile messaging market and Mavenir said the acquisition will allow for shared resources poised for LTE deployment.
The acquisition is part of a growth strategy to increase Mavenir’s footprint to 120 mobile operators worldwide.
“We look forward to helping our combined customers in their transition to LTE with products such as our recently announced trio of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) solutions,” added Kohli.
