Mexico: Alfa completes acquisition of AT&T's shares in Alestra

Alfa and AT&T Inc. announced on July 12 that Alfa had finalized its purchase of AT&T’s 49% stake in Mexican telecom company Alestra. The transaction was originally announced in April 2011. Now, Alfa is now the sole shareholder of Alestra.

The transaction was approved by regulatory authorities in Mexico. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.

Alfa is a Mexican company comprising four business groups: Alpek (petrochemicals), Nemak (high-tech aluminum auto components), Sigma (refrigerated food) and Alestra (telecommunications). For 2010, Alfa reported revenues of US$ 10.8 billion, and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of US$ 1.26 billion.
