Partnerships: Orange and Google partner to reach Africa; Motorola & Telit; and more

Orange and Google announced a strategic partnership that will leverage Orange’s SMS platform to bring Google’s services to African customers. This agreement will facilitate access to the growing mobile internet market in Africa. Through the development of SMS-based services that operate on all mobile networks (including GSM), Orange and Google will extend the reach of a wide range of internet services that were previously limited to smartphone and broadband users. Motorola Solutions announced that its joint Rail Transit TETRA Digital Trunking Laboratory at Beijing Jiaotong University has been officially unveiled. The laboratory will conduct specific research on urban rail transit, inter-city rail transit, integrated urban transport hubs, and emergency communication. Beijing Jiaotong University will adopt Motorola Solutions’ 800MHz Digital Trunking TETRA Communication System in its teaching and research on rail transit wireless communication technologies.

Telit Wireless Solutions, machine-to-machine (M2M) technology, announced that Direct Communication Solutions, has signed a distribution agreement with Telit following Telit’s acquisition of Motorola’s M2M unit.
