América Móvil, AT&T extend partnership focusing on corporate markets

Carlos Slim’s América Móvil SAB (AMX) and AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), the largest U.S. telecommunications company by revenue, signed a memorandum of understanding to deliver enhanced communication services to multinational companies throughout Latin America and to so-called multilatinas around the world. The carriers aim to meet their corporate clients’ needs in improving and increasing productivity through IP-based technologies.

The agreement is an extension of the 20-year relationship between AT&T’s and América Móvil’s group of companies in sharing technology and operational expertise. It calls for the AT&T and América Móvil to expand and enhance the coverage of their respective IP networks to deliver services and solutions to multinational companies in emerging markets.

AT&T would be able to expand its existing reach in Latin America using América Móvil networks in 15 countries throughout the region, while América Móvil would benefit from being able to use AT&T’s global network infrastructure to provide global IP-based services to its customers in the United States and the rest of the world. For AT&T, the agreement is part of its strategy to establish alliances in key regions.
