India’s total GSM mobile subscriber base stood at 632.1 million as telecom operators added 6.7 million new subscribers in the month of November, an increase of 1.1% from the previous month.
According to the Cellular Operators Association of India, an industry group representing telecom companies using GSM technology, Idea Cellular added 2.2 million customers, the highest total among India’s GSM operators. With 104 million customers, Idea has a market share of 16.5%.
Idea was followed by Uninor, which added 1.9 million customers during the month, bringing its subscriber base to 34.2 million, good for a market share of 5.4%.
Market leader Bharti Airtel, which has a market share of 27.6%, added 960,000 customers, bringing its subscriber base to 174.7 million. Vodafone, with a market share of 23.2% and a total subscriber base of 146.8 million, added 920,000 customers.
Aircel added 670,000 new customers, bringing its total subscriber base to 61 million with a market share of 9.6%.
State-owned BSNL and MTNL added 550,000 and 30,000 customers, respectively.
The Uttar Pradesh (East) telecom circle accounted for 18% of the total subscriber additions in November. The circle’s subscriber base stood at 53.2 million after the addition of 1.2 million subscribers in November.
