Perhaps looking to hedge its bets, mobile virtual network enabler Simplexity MVNO Services announced a deal with Sprint Nextel (S) to use the carrier’s network to offer third-party branded voice and data services. The announcement follows an agreement struck with LightSquared last year that appears to be on hold pending LightSquared’s attempts to gain access to its spectrum assets.
Simplexity, which owns online retailer Wirefly.com, noted the agreement with Sprint Nextel will allow it to become a direct wholesale customer and authorization to resell Sprint Nextel’s wholesale services. The deal builds on a current agreement that allows Simplexity to provide a suite of services to support mobile virtual network operators that have direct wholesale agreements with Sprint Nextel. Simplexity noted that its solutions includes sales and order acquisition, activation and provisioning, distribution and logistics, billing and subscriber lifecycle management, customer care and management analytics.
“We can leverage our infrastructure, scale, and industry experience to support MVNOs that have direct wholesale agreements with Sprint, and we can now utilize our own wholesale agreement to provide turnkey, branded wireless offerings for any of our partners,” explained Terry Hsu, president of Simplexity MVNO Services, in a statement.
Sprint Nextel, which is set to release fourth quarter and full-year 2011 results on Wednesday, saw its stock price trading up more than 3% early Monday.
