The largest telecommunications company in Chile, Entel (Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones S.A), announced that it will enter the residential fixed service business in Chile, offering fixed wireless telephony, satellite television and Internet services. The move is part of the company’s growth strategy.

According to the carrier, the new service will focus on meeting the population’s connectivity and entertainment needs in places where there are limited or no services, such as in rural areas and some urban areas.
Entel Home will offer fixed wireless telephony service through the use of digital wireless equipment, functioning in the same manner as traditional fixed telephones, with additional capabilities, such as sending and receiving SMS messages, caller ID, call logs, alarms and radio. This service will be delivered via a controlled account to facilitate household expense control.
Entel noted that all its satellite television plans, including the most basic, will have high definition (HD) channels without any additional fees. Entel’s Internet offers will be based on mobile broadband, leveraged by the company’s 3G network.
The three services will be available individually or through double or triple-play bundles.
In April, Entel said it would invest U.S.$3 billion between 2012 and 2014, focusing on mobile technology. The plan includes U.S.$900 million in investments in 2012 and the purchase of handsets for clients with contracts.
