Procera looks to boost carrier QoE capabilities

Procera Networks deepened its reach into the customer experience space, announcing the beta launch of its RAN Perspectives product, which is designed to provide real-time location and radio access network quality of experience awareness “awareness” for mobile operators.
Procera said the software platform reduces the number of probes into a network and costs associated with drive testing the quality of a network, while at the same time providing expanded visibility into network performance. The service will launch with Procera’s Customer Care Insights solution that includes an integrated RAN and IP subscriber diagnostic for customer care teams; the RAN Perspectives “view” for Insights that provides analytics for quality, congestion, applications and out-of-coverage hot spots in the network; RAN congestion management based on real-time location “awareness” that allows an operator to identify the location of a problem spot; location-specific policy enforcement and charging capabilities; and crowd-sourced “minimized drive testing and out of coverage registration.
The full version of the platform is expected to be available during the first quarter of next year.
Procera was recently singled out by Infonetics Research as a leading provider in the deep packet inspection space along with Sandvine, Allot and Cisco. The research firm claims carrier spending in the DPI market increased 23% in 2013 to $728 million, in its way to toping $2 billion in spending in 2018.
“The deep packet inspection market, particularly the mobile opportunity, remains a dynamic one, with momentum driven by not only basic traffic management requirements, but also by the need to support new pricing and service offerings,” said Shira Levine, directing analyst for service enablement and subscriber intelligence at Infonetics Research. “As this occurs, we’re seeing continued interest in embedding DPI functionality in applications such as security, video optimization, and revenue and service assurance, which is driving demand for embedded solutions that provide advanced packet classification, such as Qosmos’ ixEngine and Procera’s NAVL.”
