Moving NFV, SDN from hype to reality – NFV/SDN Reality Check Episode 20

On this week’s NFV/SDN Reality Check we talked with Ken Dilbeck, head of collaboration program at the TM Forum on moving NFV and SDN from hype to reality

Few would argue that network functions virtualization, software-defined networking, cloud and the overall virtualization market has seen an marked increase in hype over the past 18 months. Telecom vendors have swarmed the market with new software-based offerings, new entrants to the telecom space have popped up and some telecom operators have begun to develop entirely new internal structures to deal with the move towards virtualization.

One of the organizations looking to help the telecom industry in this move is the TM Forum. On this week’s NFV/SDN Reality Check, we talked with Ken Dilbeck, head of collaboration program at the TM Forum, on the challenges facing the market in dealing with the hype surrounding NFV and SDN.

Dilbeck touched on a number of topics, including what are some of the biggest challenges facing the telecom space in moving NFV from hype to reality; what part the TM Forum plays in terms of helping telecom operators make the move; whether the hype surrounding NFV and virtualization has become a hindrance to the move towards reality; and providing some tips for telecom operators as they look to make the move towards NFV.

Make sure to join us on July 24 for our next live episode of NFV/SDN Reality Check when we are scheduled to speak with Kevin Riley, CTO at Sonus Networks.
