T-Mobile throws unlimited LTE across (most of) Europe, in-flight Wi-Fi for all

Citing the summer travel season, T-Mobile is set to offer unlimited LTE data across most of Europe, add roaming in Belize and in-flight Gogo Wi-Fi for all

Coming off a rocky “Un-carrier 11” event, T-Mobile US today looked to regain some marketing momentum with a trio of new offers targeted at the summer travel season.
The carrier said its Simple Choice postpaid customers will have access to unlimited high-speed data services in July and August when traveling across Europe, minus the small Pyrenean country of Andorra. Those data speeds are said to include LTE connections, or whatever the highest data speed available. Customers will continue to have access to unlimited text messaging at no additional charge and pay 20 cents per minute for voice calls.
The offer temporarily usurps T-Mobile US’ regular offer of unlimited 2G data – which is capped at 128 kilobits per second – for customers when traveling across the continent.
T-Mobile US also is set to expand its international roaming feature to include Belize, which the carrier noted was the final country in the Western Hemisphere to be included in the offer of unlimited 2G data and text messaging. Beginning July 1, customers traveling to Belize also will have access to voice calls charged at 20 cents per minute.
The final offer is an expansion of the carrier’s partnership with in-flight Wi-Fi service provider Gogo, with all passengers on flights enabled with the Gogo service having access to one free hour of Wi-Fi service during the weekend of June 24-26. T-Mobile US customers will continue to have access to the offer, which began June 13. Gogo claims its service is available on more than 4 million flights per year.
The Gogo promotion piggybacks on one of the initial offers from the Un-carrier 11 event announced earlier this month. That event included the ability for customers to download an application providing access to weekly deals and free offers from the carrier, which at times has proven too much for the system to handle. T-Mobile US noted this week’s promotion temporarily sidelined the application, which followed a similar outcome when the offer launched earlier this month.
While perhaps significant for travelers, the latest promotions were not deemed worthy of an Un-carrier event.
