ZTE uses edge computing and IoT for smart parking solution

The smart parking service includes indoor-outdoor navigation, smart car finding and capability open service (COS)

ZTE has launched its new indoor intelligent navigation, smart car seeking solution, which uses the QCell indoor coverage solution, mobile edge computing (MEC) and IoT terrestrial magnetism detection to provide smart parking to users.

When the QCell indoor coverage system detects that a car is approaching, it reports it to the MEC device automatically. This triggers the indoor navigation, which provides parking space reservation service and route planning, ZTE explained.

“Today’s large indoor underground parking garages can be over 10,000 square meters. People often forget where their car is; or easily get lost in such big parking structures. ZTE’s solution illustrates the users’ tracks with Qcell and distinguishes algorithms, analyses and records a user’s parking space reported by IoT terrestrial magnetism and connects users with said parking space,” ZTE said in a statement. “The user can scan a QR code or use the app anywhere inside the building to get the detailed parking space and route by clicking “Navi.” With this solution, users don’t need to remember the parking space number as they only need to follow the real-time navigation to find their car.”

ZTE’s smart parking solution enables operators to provide information related to car position and idle parking spaces to the venue manager.

Geneva launches smart parking project

In related news, the canton of Geneva, in collaboration with the City of Geneva, in Switzerland is working for the deployment of a smart parking project.

The aim of the initiative is to install 650 PrestoSense sensors on parking spaces in several districts in Geneva.

The sensors used in Geneva’s smart parking projects are developed by European firm IEM. The company offers a full set of products and services ranging from park meters, street-sensors, backend applications and hosting services to collect and process parking data.
