Huawei and the City of Weifang also agreed to move forward with the establishment of an NB-IoT innovation center
Huawei and the government of Weifang City, in China, have launched “IoT Weifang”, an IoT city demo based on NB-IoT technology and Huawei OceanConnect IoT platform.
Under this project, Weifang City government and Huawei created an NB-IoT network utilizing IoT, cloud computing, big data, and other next-generation technologies. Weifang will use Huawei’s city-level IoT platform to access, manage, and collect data from sensors spread across the city.
Huawei’s IoT network integrates eight value-added services including a remote control system, Wi-Fi hotspots, video surveillance, environment monitoring and statistics. The smart lighting system monitors the status of street lamps in real-time, adjusts brightness automatically, and detects faults, among other functions.
Additionally, Huawei and Weifang have announced the establishment of the Huawei-Weifang IoT Innovation R&D Center and the Huawei-Weifang Smart City IoT Industry Alliance. These initiatives are designed to enhance and expand industrial applications of NB-IoT.
“ICT advancement is accelerating the growth of the digital economy, which is a driving force of global economic development and transforming cities across many areas including governance, transport, living, social interactions, and employment, promoting the sustainable development of cities,” Zheng Zhibin, general manager of global smart city solution department for Huawei Enterprise Business Group, said. “The underlying connectivity in these smart cities will be critical to unlock the potential of the digital economy.”
China’s Longgang district government is also working with Huawei on developing a smart district. “The transformation also achieves integrated online and offline approval services, allowing Longgang citizens to submit applications or reports to the government through online business halls, mobile apps, WeChat, and other channels,” Huawei said.
Huawei’s smart city solutions have been deployed in more than 100 cities of over 40 countries across the world. Huawei’s smart city portfolio includes safe city solutions, smart-e-government, smart grid and smart transportation.
