Ooredoo said it will explore the Dell APEX offerings to simplify its cloud experiences
Middle East operator Ooredoo Qatar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dell Technologies with the aim of strengthening an existing collaboration, simplifying digital transformation initiatives and exploring new growth opportunities through Dell’s APEX multicloud portfolio.
Through the agreement, Ooredoo will explore the Dell APEX offerings to simplify its cloud experiences and gain more control over its applications and data. Dell said that its APEX solutions will allow the Qatari telco to seamlessly manage and orchestrate its workloads while optimizing performance and ensuring high network availability.
The new deal complements Ooredoo’s current IT environment and builds on the existing technology centered around Dell’s infrastructure, storage and cyber recovery services, the telco said.

In a separate agreement, Ooredoo announced the extension of an ongoing partnership with Swedish vendor Ericsson, under which the telco will upgrade its existing 5G connectivity in Qatar.
Under this partnership extension, Ericsson’s team will work to facilitate the optimization of Ooredoo’s network with the latest technology- including millimeter wave – enabling multi-gigabit speeds, greater capacity and high mobile broadband speeds. This upgrade will also allow Ooredoo to explore new use cases using 5G technology.
Ericsson also said that the upgraded technology will also enable improved coverage and capacity, efficient power consumption as well as network slicing capabilities.
Ooredoo will also gain greater insights into network performance, traffic patterns, congestion hotspots and incident detection in real-time, achieving greater resource management and an overall enhancement to customer experience, the European vendor said.
Ooredoo announced in April 2018 that the company was the first operator in the world to launch a live 5G network on the 3.5 GHz spectrum band. Ooredoo Qatar opened mobile access to its 5G network for compatible smartphone users in July 2019 with 100 live 5G base stations in Doha.
