Nokia and Kyndryl extend private 5G deal to data center networks and security

IT infrastructure services provider Kyndryl has expanded its partnership with Nokia, already geared to provide private 4G/5G networks, to also offer data center networking solutions and services to big global enterprises. The US firm will incorporate Nokia’s data center networking solution into its systems integration offer, which includes software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN), secure access service edge (SASE) services, edge computing infrastructure, and cloud hyperscaler services – plus private cellular networks, as mentioned.

It is adding Nokia’s data center fabric, embedded security, and interconnect solutions; the latter, it emphasized, is secured by quantum-safe networking (QSN). It will integrate Nokia’s ‘event-driven automation’ (EDA) technology – described as an “infrastructure automation platform that harnesses real-time data and machine learning to enable full automation of data center networks” – with its own Kyndryl Bridge network automation platform, which provides a means for enterprises to “observe and orchestrate their entire technology environment”.

Kyndryl will also deploy the Finnish firm’s IP routing products. It noted Nokia’s record with “large-scale networks” for operators, webscalers, and enterprises – outlining its focus is on global enterprises looking to pile-on new AI and digital-change traffic, and to modernize their data center infrastructure. It stated: “Capital investment in data center networks is forecast to accelerate due to rising demand for cloud networking. Customers need to store an increasing volume of data, highlighting the urgent need for robust, scalable, and secure data center network solutions.”

Paul Savill, in charge of Kyndryl’s global network and edge computing practice, said: “Enterprises face increasing workloads due to hybrid IT environments, AI adoption, and high-performance computing. The demand for highly reliable, low-latency, and secure connectivity has never been greater. Our expanded portfolio with Nokia underscores the critical role that robust data center network infrastructure plays in driving IT modernization. From leveraging AI-driven network automation to extending capabilities at the edge, [we can] empower enterprises to mitigate future risks, meet regulatory requirements, and accelerate their transformation journeys.”

Federico Guillén, president of network infrastructure at Nokia, said: “As businesses use AI to transform themselves, they need fast, secure, and easy-to-use data center networks. That’s what Nokia and Kyndryl are offering together. By combining Kyndryl’s IT expertise with Nokia’s advanced, open and secure network technology, we’re jointly creating solutions businesses can trust. This partnership makes it easier than ever for companies to modernize their data centers and stay ahead in the AI world.”
