As we move into hurricane season, Global Alert Network (GAN) has announced a new version of its free alert app for iPhone users.
Already available on Android and BleackBerry, the app allows users to keep abreast of emergency updates, traffic alerts and weather information, to help them steer clear of flooding, record high temperatures and tropical storms.
The app reportedly uses a consumer’s phone GPS to automatically recognize the owner’s location and send through only alerts relevant to that location. Users can also adjust their settings to ensure they receive only the alerts they want to subscribe to, from Amber Alerts to traffic reports.
“The app’s hyper-local weather and traffic alerts have the potential to save lives as harsh weather continues across the U.S. this summer,” the app’s makers said, noting that this latest iteration was significant because the iPhone market represented nearly 25 percent of the Smartphone community.
GAN, which is free for users, generates revenue from ads that run in its alerts.
The firm says it also has plans to build out its alerts to include content channels too, including sports and news.
